Last weekend, Portrush welcomed Coleraine to the Port for their Senior League game.
The draws came out as follows;
Gary McCloy v Richard McDermott
Eddie Curran v Johnny Calvin
Jackie Smyth v Basil Kennedy
Ian McClure v Victor Dallas
Rink 6
This saw the Gary McCloy v Richard McDermott encounter. Gazza’s rink all played solid stuff and quickly opened up a 10 shot lead. This was extended to 13 shots by the end of the game, with a 26-13 final score. Gary’s rink have had an impressive start to the season, and with The Magician sprinkling his Magic Dust over the rink, they are enjoying their bowls at present.
Rink 5
This matched up Ed Curran and Johnny Calvin. Johnny played some super bowls early in the game to keep the Coleraine Quartet in the game. T.C. Colvin pulled the mat all the way out and not only gave an exhibition of Jack throwing but also decorated the Kitty for the middle part of the game too. This game swung both ways, but the Portrush Rink had a 3 shot lead going into the last end, meaning they could play positional bowls to close out the game. Final Score;22-20
Rink 3
This saw Portrush’s Ex-Commonwealth bowler Winky Smyth take on Coleraine Stalwart Basil Kennedy. The Portrush boys all started off well, going into a healthy lead, but then the wheels seem to come off and they quickly fell 10 shots behind. But the Portrush Puffer had a full head of steam up, and played some big bowls when most needed, to Winky’s delight. The Home Rink held on for a 1 shot victory and sealed another point.
Rink 2
This had Coleraine’s unbeaten Rink skipped by another Ex-Commonwealth Bowler Victor Dallas face up against The Mac-Daddy, Ian McClure. This was a tough fought battle, with every shot like gold dust. A couple of fortunate rubs of the green gave Victor’s foursome the edge coming into the home straight, however, on the penultimate end, Ian had a chance to pull the jack for a 5 – a fantastic effort that just grazed past the outside of the jack and left the Portrush Rink 6 down in the last. Final Score; 13-20 to the visitors.
